Autherine Juanita Lucy (born October 5, 1929) was the first African-American student to attend the University of Alabama, in 1956.[1] Her expulsion from the institution led to the university’s President Oliver Carmichael’s resignation.[2] Years later, the university let her enter as a master’s student and monument’s honor the sacrifice that she made.
